On 12 September 2019, a formal ceremony took place in Amsterdam at which Georgy Vadimovich Vilinbakhov was awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau, Officer Class. The royal decoration was presented to the Deputy General Director of the State Hermitage by Marjolein Moorman, Deputy Mayor of the city.
His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands awarded the honour to Georgy Vilinbakhov for services in the creation and development of the Hermitage–Amsterdam exhibition centre, as well as long years of contributing to the development of cultural ties between Russia and the Netherlands.
Georgy Vadimovich has close links to the Netherlands. He has participated in the organization of numerous successful exhibitions in Amsterdam, including “1917. Romanovs & Revolution. The End of Monarchy”, “Peter the Great: The Great Reformer” and “Dutch Masters from the Hermitage” and many more. The presentation of the award was timed to mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Hermitage–Amsterdam centre.
The Order of the royal house of Orange-Nassau is presented for special services to the Netherlands in various fields of activity. It is one of the Dutch civil orders of chivalry.
