International Theoretical and Practical Conference on “Fashion and Design”

The Staraya Derevnya repository served as the venue for two sections of the conference: “Costume in the Historical Perspective” and “The Reconstruction and Restoration of Historical Costume”. Members of the Hermitage staff and their colleagues from other museums in Russia spoke in their presentations about the use of decorative elements in costumes of various periods: gold and silver thread, beads and bugles, foil and sequins, buttons. There was examination of questions relating to the technology and history of manufacture and to the restoration of exhibits. The conference participants were able to acquaint themselves with the Costume Gallery open-storage facility.
