The Dutch firm Mijksenaar (http://www.mijksenaar.com) has won the international competition for planners and designers to produce a system to help visitors find their way about the State Hermitage’s General Staff building.
The competition, held between September and December 2015, was organized by the Hermitage XXI Century Foundation at the request of the State Hermitage and funded by GAZPROM. Companies based in Russia and Europe that specialize in internal way-finding systems for exhibition centres, museums and airports were invited to participate. An important criterion for the State Hermitage jury’s choice was experience of appraising and optimizing complex internal way-finding systems.
The way-finding system for the General Staff developed by Mijksenaar jointly with Hermitage specialists will completely replace the designer system devised by the Russian designers Andrei Sheliutto and Anton Feodorov for the Manifesta 10 European Biennale of Contemporary Art held in the General Staff in 2014. As in 2014, the chief financial partner for the implementation of the new way-finding system will be the JTI Group.
