In the 16th and 17th centuries Milan was amongst the most important armoury centres in Italy. From its workshops came many excellent pieces, which continue to amaze us today with their technical and artistic perfection. One such work is this sword, created by two of the leading masters of the age. The superb blade is by Pietro Caino, who left his name at its base, while Francesco Rivolta produced the hilt of openwork steel, his own name being inscribed within.
