This burgonet helmet together with a rondache or pageant shield and a hand covering, consisting of a vambrace and a gauntlet form part of a single set of armour probably produced in a Venetian workshop in the late 1550s. The set of armour belonged to the famous Venetian commander Sforza Pallavicino (1522-1577). Its decoration is extremely rich and is a marvellous combination of technical perfection and complex ornamentation achieved through the use of gold inlay on steel. The items of the set feature the Hydra and a motto in Latin Ut. Cumq.
